Foundation Portfolio Benchmarking

Stop compiling grantee data by hand.

Your program officers already ask whether grantees are financially healthy. Answering that question across a portfolio of 25, 100, or 200 organizations is a significant research effort , unless the data is already public.

Every organization that files a Form 990 has already submitted detailed financial data to the IRS. Benchlytics pulls that data, runs the benchmark, and delivers the findings to you.

How it works

Benchlytics generates benchmark reports for each organization in your portfolio, based on their IRS Form 990 filings. Each organization is compared against peers in the same NTEE sub-sector. You see which grantees are above or below their peers on reserve position, program expense ratio, and revenue concentration.

No additional burden on you or your grantees. There are no new data requests to manage and no new reports to coordinate. The 990 data they have already filed is the source, compiled and delivered to you for easy review.

01
One portfolio document
A single, well-organized report with a dedicated section for each grantee. Their metrics, their sub-sector comparison, their trend over time. One document to review, not one PDF per organization.
02
Structured data export
An Excel or CSV file with all grantee metrics in one place. One row per organization, a summary tab, and the ability to sort, filter, and analyze as you see fit.
03
You review it. We compiled it.
Gathering and standardizing financial data across a large portfolio is time-consuming work. Benchlytics handles it automatically from public 990 filings so your team doesn’t have to.
04
No burden on your grantees
The data comes from public 990 filings. You do not need to ask your grantees for anything they haven’t already submitted to the IRS.
The process

Up and running in three steps

1

Submit your portfolio list

Provide the EINs of the organizations in your portfolio. We verify each one against the IRS database and confirm which have 990 data available.

2

We generate the benchmark

Each organization is matched to its NTEE sub-sector peer group. Metrics are calculated from the most recent available 990 filing and compared against that peer group.

3

You receive the deliverables

One portfolio document and one structured data export. Both refresh annually as new 990 filings become available. No ongoing work required on your end.

Pricing and scope
